Position Mandate

 

Reporting to the Vice-President, Indirect Lending, the Manager, Strategic Planning & Analysis, will play a key role in helping grow this emerging line of business. This is an evolving position that will require flexibility and will lead to more responsibility quickly for the right individual. Namely, there are 3 key components to this position:

 

1- Market Intelligence (what we observe)

  • Keep abreast of changes in lending, retail and adjacent markets by continually analyzing and extracting insights for action on partners, competitors, consumers and anything else that has impact
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts, associations, subject matter experts and other relevant players to continuously source information not obtainable through other means
  • Produce and keep updated a set of strategic documents that provide analysis, insights and recommendations on market dynamics, and help leadership make sound decisions
  • Build and leverage quantitative models to produce best-in-class results and give the organization a competitive advantage over others in this space

2- Strategic Planning (what we do about it and why)

  • Influence the strategic plan/forecast/P&L process that sets the direction for Indirect, analyzing and extracting insights for action for the strategic opportunities and challenges the business faces
  • Develop high-impact presentations and memos to communicate strategy across the organization. Help build/guide P&L, pricing and other such models to provide business direction to Indirect
  • Develop a deep understanding of goeasy’s Indirect Lending strategy and ensure it is embedded / reflected in the development of everything we do
  • Cultivate strong relationships with business partners and leaders across the organization (e.g., Risk, Finance, Operations) to ensure input on and buy-in for the strategic direction of the business

3- Reporting (how we measure our actions and continuously improve upon them)

  • Develop scorecards and KPIs to measure every aspect of the business and ensure that gaps are closed quickly and continuously and that incentives are in place to grow the business successfully
  • Work with counterparts to develop insights reporting on an as-needed basis on every aspect of the business, analyzing and extracting insights for action, identifying trends and patterns

 

Candidate profile

We are seeking a top candidate with a strong background in strategy and finance. While this role is analytical in nature, we are looking for a creative thinker that will be able to take on a leadership role in the business and contribute to the growth and direction it is taking. Furthermore, because the Indirect business is emerging and growing rapidly, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable with ambiguity and with working on elements of the business that fall outside of this mandate. 

 

  • An MBA is extremely desirable, with a financial designation being a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, alternative retail lending or another fast-paced environment
  • The ability to solve problems through both back-of-the-envelope and quantitative methods and the ability to move at pace in both circumstances
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical thinking abilities, with outstanding critical judgment
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to deal with ambiguity, work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment, while still successfully managing multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Superior interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally, in teams and with senior leadership
  • Strong communicator - ability to tell a compelling story through insights and recommendations: You put PowerPoint decks together in your sleep but don't put executives to sleep with your decks
  • Expert proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Incredible attention to detail with a "no errors or omissions" philosophy
  • Ability to grow and manage a small team of direct reports
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, collaborative spirit, a high level of integrity and a sense of humor
