The Director, Software Engineering will have the primary focus in building and leading a high performing software development & support team. You will bring a clear passion for technology, delivery & application support. Providing vision and leadership, the Director will be responsible for the people management to career development. In addition, the incumbent will be the key to our architectural direction to build a re-useable, scalable product platform. The Director role will manage offshore & onshore teams and work closely with a number of cross functional key stakeholders, including project management, marketing, operations, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivery & overall management of highly complex enterprise-wide technology solutions consisting of multiple work streams and/or projects.
  • Ensure & oversee project execution, resource deployment and overall coordination efforts to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to budget with quality outcomes
  • Ensure applications are supportable, achieve business objectives and anticipated benefits, are in line with reference architecture and meet security/availability/disaster recovery standards.
  • Work with business to understand the overarching business strategy and objectives in order to develop technology solutions
  • Accountable to the business and IT leadership for successful application service delivery
  • Responsible for the entprise wide application support and performance to ensure highest system uptime.
  • Prioritize and manage development and implementation of enhancements and/or change requests by fostering collaboration with the business
  • Accountable for delivering & implementing end-to-end technology solutions, in line with strategic business objectives and priorities
  • Responsible to provide technical insight, oversight, strategic context, direction and leadership to the teams involved.
  • Partner closely with business, corporate project delivery office and technology teams to ensure business needs are clearly understood and the technology implemented meets business needs and expectations.
  • Manage & work with relevant third party service providers and partners to source tools and resources in order to develop solutions and leverage innovation.
  • Monitor, design, implement and evolve an effective offshore / onshore resource augmentation & capacity management strategy.
  • Responsible for all staff-related functions (administrative, training, career planning, etc) for team members
  • Lead a team of Solution Architects and designers to evolve architecture roadmap and guidelines
  • Manage a team of Application Services managers, to support enterprise wide application development and level 2 & 3 production support.
  • Keep up-to-date with advances, best practices and potentially relevant vendors, tools and techniques, including open source projects, in the application development and architecture domain, especially with respect to the financial industry.
  • Advise Goeasy leadership and staff on relevant advances in application development & architecture technologies as they apply to the evolving Goeasy business model

 

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have 10 years or more of successful experience managing teams responsible for application strategy, software development, production support and architecture for, preferably, a financial services company
  • Should be well versed in current legal and regulatory issues and trends with respect to IT Security and technology architecture trends
  • Ability to work at all organization levels and be hands on as and when required
  • Excellent understanding of software development tools and methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of current technologies and approaches to ensure the best and most efficient way to architect and develop new technology solutions
  • Expert domain knowledge & experience in Web, CRM, Core banking and Enterprise Service Bus platforms,.
  • Experience with best practices around enterprise architecture
  • Experience in building and managing a team of Managers, Systems Analysts, Business Systems Analysts and architects to build a center of excellence in support of the company’s technology needs.
  • Should have excellent communications skills to interact efficiently with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders and program contributors
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for a degree in a related field (information technology, management, etc.)
  • Experience in the financial services industry or industries is an asset
  • Ability to multi-task in a very dynamic environment.
  • Build effective relationships with peers across the organization
  • Ability to manage effectively in a highly matrixed environment
  • Capability of grasping and challenging low level technical assumptions
