The Director, Government Relations is an exciting new opportunity focused on growing the Government Relations practice within goeasy. This individual will be accountable for positioning goeasy as a trusted and valued partner for all levels of government within our industry and to actively manage related issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactive monitoring of the Canadian landscape at all levels of government and policy development to identify areas and issues that could impact goeasy’s current business operations and future strategies/plans
  • Strategic and tactical implementation of an overall Government Relations strategy for goeasy, including:
    • Relationship building and liaising with all levels of government (provincial/federal/municipal);
    • Educating and building a solid understanding for political officials and public servants at all levels regarding the industry in which goeasy operates, as well as goeasy current business practices;
    • Lobbying government/arrange for lobbying of government (based on rules) on issues of importance to goeasy, with the goal of positively impacting public policy development;
    • Coordinating and completing goeasy’s responses to: consultation papers, policy papers, draft regulations, committee appearances, speeches and media opportunities etc. that align with goeasy’s short-and-long term goals
  • Responding to specific legislative and regulatory measures that are brought forward by various levels of government by directly engaging with relevant politicians, public servants, stakeholders and other decision makers, with the goal of achieving positive outcomes for goeasy
  • Proactively working with trade associations of which goeasy is a member, including the Canadian Lenders Association (CLA) on issues of importance to goeasy (short and long term), set agendas and move policy items forward.
  • Working with goeasy Communications/PR resource to build overall brand to highlight for government relations activities
  • Identifying opportunities for goeasy to partner with governments at all levels with the goal of continuing to build and strength the goeasy brand
  • In the longer term, identify and bring forward issues and topics of strategic interest to goeasy to build goeasy’s reputation for thought leadership and to encourage business-friendly policy development for the Canadian marketplace for example, policy development in the following areas: innovation, data strategy, blockchain, privacy, tax,,  technology, etc.)
  • Business Readiness; ensuring all Government Relations impacts are seamlessly translated into operational activities

 

Qualifications:

  • University or Master’s degree is required, LL.B is an asset
  • 5-10 years’ experience with government relations, public service, public policy, policy development, public affairs, communication
  • Proven ability to effectively build strategic alliances, preferably within Government that translate to positive business outcomes
  • Ability to think strategically and problem solve complex issues at the highest level
  • Experience in crisis response and management, including developing and executing on multi-faceted business plans
  • Proven ability to build influence and indirectly exert authority with internal and external stakeholders
  • Direct Government experience is an asset
