Reporting to the CFO, the Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis is a mission critical leadership role in the Finance team that impacts the Company’s short-term & long-term growth ambitions with overall responsibility for budgeting and forecasting, business unit decision support, development of targets & assumptions, strategic initiatives and management reporting. This leader would be responsible for creating a high performing team; highly engaged by fostering an environment of coaching, mentoring and development.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

 Strategic Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Work with the senior executive team and business leaders in developing both annual and long-term strategic plans ensuring clear milestones, timelines and accountabilities
  • Establish a system of delivering forecast information on or ahead of time and able to guide team to turn around ad hoc analysis at a pace in-line with the needs of the business
  • Compile information, manage assumptions, and develop bottom up / top down budgets encompassing both financial results and key performance indicators
  • Lead preparation & delivery of monthly and quarterly management and board reporting package presentations
  • Enhance forecasting capabilities and business insights

 Deliver Crucial Analysis and Line of Business Support

  • Be viewed as a trusted advisor by the business unit leadership and senior executive and provide timely and valued decision support and analysis
  • Owning ongoing model development and business casing to evaluate growth initiatives and overall product performance.
  • Develop business cases and analysis on initiatives contemplated by the business units
  • Based on an in-depth understanding of the business, proactively drive areas of investigation and analysis in line with the Company’s goals and objectives
  • Engage cross-functionally and be an analytical resource to the rest of the business
  • Support ongoing business initiatives as they emerge

 Enhance Management Reporting

  • Simplify; deliver high value insights, on a schedule, in the most straight-forward manner
  • Prepare in-depth analysis of business results – translating the reported financial results to actionable information on the Company’s business units
  • Challenge business performance and the status quo
  • Continuously enhance the management reporting package based on the needs of the business and the executive team
  • Provide recommendations – not just identify issues
  • Proactively delve into complex areas of the business – providing recommendations
  • Support the quarter and year end close processes
  • Contribute to the MD&A, investor presentations and annual report

 Support Strategic Projects

  • Support and lead strategic projects such as acquisitions, divestitures, new business ventures, partnerships and post-merger integration as they emerge.
  • Support capital market activities such as debt and equity raising
  • Enhance the FP&A team; lead the change management process and build a high potential group of direct reports that form a top performing team and function. 

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (CPA or CA) with at least 10 years of progressive financial management experience; MBA and / or CFA is considered desirable
  • Financially fluent with a keen focus on drivers of business – sees beyond the numbers
  • Experience navigating IFRS in Financial Services is extremely desirable
  • Comfortable with a rapidly growing and dynamic environment
  • Natural leader with strong people management and coaching skills
  • A keen eye for talent and a desire to build and retain a high potential high performing team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure
  • Able to manage competing priorities, meet deliverables while building relationships with colleagues.
  • A collaborative thinker able to build consensus and cross functional teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with financial services is a benefit
  • Ability to manage multiple large complex projects
