The Senior Manager, Government Relations helps develop and execute goeasy’s government relations strategy. This role will be responsible for building and fostering relationships with key government, media and industry stakeholders, monitor relevant government policy and legislation, raise goeasy’s visibility among decision-makers as well as advise on the development of proactive government relations, policies and strategies that advance the company’s strategic objectives. The successful candidate will take the lead on developing and supporting a public affairs and stakeholder relations program that advances goeasy’s strategic objectives and reputation.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, addressing, and managing the business’ government relations needs in support of strategic objectives; providing support and triage of government relations matters to the SVP, Legal & Corporate Affairs.
  • Closely monitor government relations activity in every jurisdiction in which goeasy operates and tailor recommendations and solutions to meet business goals, as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team and as applicable to a publicly-traded company (TSX: GSY).
  • Building and executing engagement plans with federal/provincial/municipal government officials and other third-party industry stakeholders to raise awareness and strengthen corporate reputation
  • Implement the strategic government relation plan of the Company with the SVP, Legal & Corporate Affairs, including the implementation of government relations objectives based on the current needs of the business and to promote and broaden awareness of organizational goals and brand objectives with key policymakers and decision-makers.
  • Responsibility for the development and design of material of government and stakeholder engagement including: presentations, briefing notes, speeches, and other communications collateral to promote corporate objectives and enhance the organizational profile
  • Working with internal subject matter experts to evaluate public policy priorities, opportunities, and risk and lead organization-wide responses to legislative initiatives and consultations, as well as responding to general inquiries from elected and non-elected decision-makers on key issues.
  • Represent the company in meetings with senior government officials, key stakeholders, and third-party influencers, as required
  • Identify and support advocacy efforts with industry-leading associations and bodies, as appropriate and as required manage relationships with local government relations agencies
  • Work closely with other departments and members of the communications team to integrate proactive media outreach in communications where appropriate
  • Apprise the SVP, Legal & Corporate Affairs of issues, opportunities and threats related to government relations items that arise.

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience, either in the public sector or in a corporate government relations capacity
  • Ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders under tight timelines and in high pressure situations
  • Strong written and communication skills. Bilingual preferred
  • University or College graduate in a related field.
  • Strong government and public relations acumen, including deep knowledge of various levels of government;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; experience translating technical and sensitive or confidential information for various audiences;
  • Experience developing and implementing government relations and media relations plans;
  • Proven experience building and maintaining brand presence to help achieve an organizational vision;
  • Strong time management skills with minimal need for oversight;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with great attention to detail
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to excellence
