Reporting to the VP, Talent and Rewards, the Director, Payroll oversees the organization’s administration of HR data and payroll, while providing leadership and guidance to a team of HR and payroll professionals. As a key member of the HR leadership team, this individual will foster a service-centric, delivery focused payroll function with an eye for detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of goeasy’s multi-provincial, bi-weekly payroll function for approximately 2600 hourly and salaried employees (4 businesses/6 pay groups), including the recording and reporting of accurate information, time and attendance administration, calculation and payout of monthly and annual bonus incentive programs, general ledger administration and balancing
  • Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness, while remaining in compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and programs. Advise on any new legislation or industry developments related to payroll processing
  • Act as the payroll subject matter expert, providing guidance to HR leadership and respective team members
  • Provide coaching, development and learning opportunities to a team of 8 associates, including the Payroll Manager. Provide effective performance feedback to team members, ensuring responsibilities are consistent with skills and developmental goals
  • Oversee year-end processing, reporting functions and government fillings
  • Oversee full- cycle benefits administration and reconciliation of group benefits, including but not limited to goeasy’s employee insurance and investment programs
  • Oversee regular and ad-hoc reporting requests, preparation of documents for payroll and tax audits
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in employee records. Oversee UKG employee files
  • Drive efficiencies through streamlining of processes and execution of automation projects to ensure the team can perform to the best of their abilities through value- added work
  • Other projects as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of full-cycle payroll experience with 5+ recent years of leadership experience, overseeing the payroll function
  • Experience with SAAS based payroll systems; UKG experience is a strong asset
  • Previous system implementation experience is an asset
  • Expert level Knowledge of Canadian payroll including processing, executive compensation, taxes, provincial and federal regulations, and year-end procedures
  • Knowledge/exposure to US/International payroll regulations are an asset
  • Applicable post secondary education and NPI (PCP/CPM) payroll designation
