Role Overview:
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Vice-President, Financial Accounting & Controllership is a key senior leadership role within the organization. This position requires a seasoned, hands-on executive capable of driving the company’s ambitious growth objectives while ensuring the integrity of its financial structures and controls. As goeasy continues to expand, managing a multi-billion-dollar portfolio across multiple verticals, this role will lead efforts to streamline and enhance financial consolidation, reporting, and performance tracking across diverse business units. Additionally, this executive role will play a critical role in driving the company’s diversification strategy and fostering the development of a high-performing finance team, empowering both collective and individual growth.
Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Leadership of the Controllership Function: Provide visionary leadership to a high-performing team responsible for driving financial excellence across the organization. Oversee critical functions including Corporate Accounting, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, Taxation, Audit Coordination, Disbursements, Asset & Inventory Management, Vendor & Expense Management, and related financial analysis.
- Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance: Full responsibility for producing accurate and timely financial reports and regulatory submissions for the organization’s legal entities and business units. This includes Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis, Annual Report & Information Form, and the Management Information Circular.
- Financial Integrity & Accuracy: Ensure the completeness and accuracy of corporate accounts, including maintaining financial systems of record, adhering to accounting policies, and ensuring proper valuations, provisions, and financial presentation under IFRS and applicable local GAAP.
- Audit Management & External Relations: Lead and represent the organization on all financial audit matters, overseeing and coordinating external audits and reviews to ensure compliance and transparency. (Oversight of EY relationship)
- Taxation Oversight & Compliance: Ensure optimization and full compliance with all tax obligations, including Income Tax, Indirect Tax, Transfer Pricing, Provisions, and audits by tax authorities.
- Disbursement Controls: Oversee disbursement accounting, ensuring effective controls are in place for Vendor and Employee Payments & Distributions.
- Audit Committee & Board Reporting: Prepare and present key financial materials and reports to the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
- Management Reporting Support: Provide ongoing preparation and support for the company’s Management Reporting processes.
- Financial Stewardship: Directly impact the management and financial integrity of goeasy by ensuring effective stewardship of organizational resources, maintaining strong financial controls, and ensuring compliance with all legal, governmental, and regulatory requirements.
Providing Support to Other Functional Areas of Finance:
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Budgets, Forecasts, Investment and Business Unit Analysis, Project Planning, Management Reporting, Strategic Analysis, KPIs, and departmental support.
- Treasury: Capital & Debt Management, Funding Facilities, Securitization, Financial Instruments, and credit cost optimization.
- Investor Relations: New Ventures & Deal Analysis, Research, Equity Research, Rating Agency Inquiries, and Strategic Planning.
Qualifications:
- 10-12 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with most recent scope at a senior leadership level (VP+).
- Experience within a publicly-traded organization; relevant financial services experience is an asset.
- Chartered Accountant (CPA/CA) with previous progressive experience in an accounting/audit firm.
- Consolidation and reporting experience working in a parent company with multiple business units operating in multiple geographies.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience in IFRS is required. Knowledge of US GAAP is an asset.
- Previous experience managing external financial audits is required.
- Knowledge of Canadian Income and Indirect Taxation is required. Experience in International Tax is an asset.
- Strong financial systems knowledge and experience is required.
- A natural leader with strong people management and coaching skills.
- A strong and organized leader that can manage financial processes but also distill communication with the executive team and business leaders.
- Ability to multitask and deal with people and situations in a professional manner within a dynamic environment. Able to manage competing priorities, meet deliverables while building relationships with colleagues.
