Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer the Senior Vice-President, Finance & Controller is a newly configured role at goeasy! This is a key leadership role within the organization, which will require a seasoned hands-on leader to support the organization in fulfilling its ambitious goals while maintaining the necessary financial structure and controls. As part of goeasy’s plans for accelerated growth, this role will lead the creation and enhancement of processes to consolidate and report on financials and performance from a variety of business units and, eventually, geographies. This role will provide critical leadership to a talented finance team, providing opportunities for collective and individual growth.

Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Direct oversight of the Controllership function including Corporate Accounting, Financial, Regulatory Reporting, Taxation, Audit Coordination, Disbursements, Asset & Inventory Management, Vendor & Expense Management, and other related analysis.
  • Overall responsibility for all required financial reports and related regulatory submissions across the organization’s legal entities and business units, including production of Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis, Annual Report & Information Form, and the Management Information Circular.
  • Accountability for the completeness and accuracy of the organizations corporate accounts, including financial systems of record, accounting policies, provisions, valuations, and presentation under IFRS and local market GAAP, where applicable.
  • Lead and represent the company on all financial audit matters, including managing and coordinating external financial audits and reviews.
  • Ensuring optimization and compliance with all taxation requirements and obligations across the organization, including Income Tax, Indirect Tax, Transfer Pricing, Provisions, and Audits conducted by tax authorities.
  • Responsibility for the company’s disbursement accounting and related controls, including Vendor and Employee Payments & Distributions.
  • Preparation of required materials and reports to the company’s Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Preparation and support of the company’s Management Reporting.
  • Directly impacting the management and financial integrity of goeasy through the effective stewarding of organizational resources, maintaining appropriate controls, and integrity of financial management in compliance with applicable legal, governmental, and regulatory requirements.

Providing support to other functional areas of finance:

  • Corporate Development - including M&A activity, New Business Venture & Deal analysis, Research, Investor Relations, Equity Research, Rating Agency enquiries, and Strategic Planning.
  • Treasury - including Capital and Debt Management, Funding Facilities, Transactional Banking, Securitization vehicle, Financial Instruments, and optimizing cost of credit.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis - including the preparation of Budgets, Forecasts, Investment Analysis, Business Unit Segment Analysis, Project Planning, Management Reporting, Strategic Analysis, Departmental Financial Support, Key Performance Indicators, and other related analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (CPA/CA) with at least 10-12 years of progressive financial management experience.
  • Experience within a publicly-traded organization along with relevant financial services experience is an asset.
  • Consolidation and reporting experience working in a parent company with multiple business units operating in multiple geographies.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience in IFRS is required. Knowledge of US GAAP is an asset.
  • Previous experience managing external financial audits is required.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Income and Indirect Taxation is required. Experience in International Tax is an asset.
  • Strong financial systems knowledge and experience is required.
  • Comfortable with a rapidly growing, fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • A natural leader with strong people management and coaching skills.
  • A strong and organized leader that can manage financial processes but also distill communication with the executive team and business leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines and company goals.
  • Ability to multitask and deal with people and situations in a professional manner within a dynamic environment.  Able to manage competing priorities, meet deliverables while building relationships with colleagues.
