Join our dynamic legal team as a Litigation Paralegal, where you’ll take ownership of high-impact cases, from fraud disputes to Small Claims matters. You’ll lead negotiations, craft complex legal strategies, and represent the company in court—making a real difference while collaborating across departments and influencing business outcomes.
Day in the life of a Litigation Paralegal
- Oversee the resolution and management of legal disputes, including fraud-related matters and Small Claims cases.
- Prepare, review, and manage complex legal documentation, including pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
- Conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation.
- Coordinate and negotiate settlements, balancing legal risk and business objectives.
- Represent the company at court appearances, including settlement conferences and trials, demonstrating professionalism and strong advocacy skills.
- Plan and manage workflow to ensure all deadlines are consistently met.
- Liaise and communicate with internal departments to facilitate smooth throughout the litigation process.
- Oversee the use of the legal file management system, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Provide regular updates and performance reports to the Director of Legal, highlighting case status and key developments.
What we are looking for:
- Paralegal Diploma/Certificate and licensed with the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.
- At least 3 years’ experience in Small Claims Court, including debt collection and trial preparation.
- Strong knowledge of provincial legislation (including but not limited to Consumer Protection Act, Personal Property Security Act) and Small Claims Court Rules.
- Skilled in legal research, documentation, and case management; familiarity with other provincial small claims processes is an asset.
- Excellent computer proficiency and the ability to adapt to company systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and customer service skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Able to work in a team or independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for court appearances (mileage reimbursed).
- Full-time availability to work in our Pickering, ON head office.
