We are seeking an energetic, hardworking, and motivated Employee Relations (HR) Specialist to join our growing team and company! Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Employee Relations Specialist plays a key role in fostering an equitable, transparent and respectful work environment for employees. This individual will ensure there is a consistent approach to interpretation and application of Company policies, practices and rules of engagement.

A wildly successful Employees Relations Specialist will be someone with strong problem solving, consulting and organizational skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide high quality consultation to management across the organization on strategies and approaches to manage complex employee issues.
  • Conduct employee investigations independently or in liaison with internal Branch Audit team in accordance with Company standards; professionally documenting findings and recommendations for appropriate resolution for review by Senior Leadership while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • Oversee and support management team with performance management activity including: performance issues, progressive discipline/corrective action up to and including termination. This includes creating and/or reviewing documentation to support performance discussions (Written Warnings, Performance Improvements Plans, etc.).
  • Partner with other teams within human resources to leverage employee relations insights to enhance training programs, onboarding, talent acquisition, rewards, culture.
  • Manage communication with employees on leave of absence and facilitate return to work plans.
  • Coordinate with management team on Health & Safety matters including workplace injury situations.
  • Assist employees and management with the interpretation of Company policies and respond to inquiries and concerns.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to management to enhance their people management capability.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with provincial employment laws.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What experience do you have?

  • University/college degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ Employee Relations or HR Generalist experience.
  • Strong Knowledge of provincial Employment Standards legislation, Human Rights, Health and Safety legislation and other applicable employment law.
  • Broad experience in policy and legislation interpretation, customer service, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, sound judgment and sensitivity in dealing with employee situations.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills and attention to detail to manage work, competing deadlines and sensitive projects.
  • Experience in dealing with various levels of stakeholders across the company.
  • Advanced computer skills, and knowledge and expertise in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems is preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
